Hold Fast to Hope…

This Sunday, as Catholics on this Sunday’s Solemnity of Christ the King, we will sit and ponder the meaning of the Lord’s Kingship. This Solemnity reminds us that Christ’s power is absolute. What Christ demands cannot be balanced by other considerations and so it often requires us to reconsider our own life balance and importance of other things above Him. Perhaps, more than any other year in recent history, the feast this year reminds us, too, that Jesus reigns in every corner of life. No area is immune from His saving power. We need to regain that understanding that His truth and mercy belong everywhere, from the boardroom to the bedroom, to the classroom, and yes, even to the voting booth.

I am reminded of the dying thief on the cross prayed, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” The one who is our chief elder, and our sovereign king, always supports and sustains us and in every place, in all conditions and circumstances of life. In Him we find health and wholeness, liberation and new life, grace and peace.

Friends, I know many of us are troubled in our world today. We find the balance of our nation to be troubling and the welcome that we extended here to others, not so much in the intent of tomorrow. However, we are safe, and God will get us through it because He is Christ the King and our true life is not here.

Stay fast. Hold onto hope. I am.
